🌐 In our community, students of this course will be able to ask questions, engage in discussions, and interact with each other and the course instructors. And not only about the course material! This highly monitored and structured space is a safe way for them to interact with like-minded teens, as well as gain insight, and share their own experiences.
Meet Tristan Daley, MA., licenced counsellor, educator and entrepreneur. Passionate about overcoming the obstacles faced by young people today, Tristan has compiled over 12 years of research, education, non-profit development and experience working with young people into this one, targetted, course.
"I've worked for several years with programs and systems that claim to help young people, only to see them do half-good jobs because of a narrow view of the situation. You can't help young people be better, you can only encourage them to WANT to be better. So this program does exactly that: helping young people help themselves."
I think particularly for me, mental health and setting realistic goals are such important topics for young people to learn. I was too set on getting high marks in university, like I did in school, and this resulted in my anxiety shooting through the roof and affecting my overall happiness. It took away from the fun I would have had in those years. If I had come out of school having learned how to manage my mental health and goals better, it might have led to a better start at university.
At the non-profit where I work; I teach young people how to start businesses to help transform their options in life. It's often so clear that they haven't been taught how to navigate life, manage stress and anxiety or take responsibility for their actions. So many of them feel like victims of circumstance, others or society, that they are crippled into thinking they can't do anything.
But nobody is teaching them how to overcome or prevent this kind of thinking.
Even my own kids (18 and 21) could benefit from learning these skills to help them realize what they are capable of and have the confidence to pursue it.
It's so important for teens to learn relational skills, how to have difficult conversations and how to make difficult decisions. In the school environment, it is so clear that these areas are often lacking. They keep a 'safe distance' from others preventing meaningful relations, they feel disconnected from their parents, and feel unheard, and they tend to make big decisions without really understanding the weight of them. Beyond this, when they learn about these areas in school they tend to see them as purely academic and not practical.
While live sessions can build great rapport and relationships between students and instructors, and allow them to ask direct questions;
❌ Students get specific answers to specific questions
❌ They rely on others to answer the questions they are asking
❌ They miss out on the opportunity to discover those answers themselves
❌ The restrictive time of live sessions require it to be an allocated activity that is only present when they are doing the sessions
❌ The benefit of live courses end when the sessions end
❌ If careful notes aren't taken or a student misses a session, they either miss out, or they are provided with a hurried summary or the end result answers
Semi-self-paced means that the amount of time they spend on the course and when they do it is up to them and the goals they set out for themselves in the beginning of the course.
✅ They take responsibility for the process from the very first module
✅ They become aware that they are doing this for themselves, and only they can develop these skills through personal reflection
✅ They can pause the videos at any time, rewind or rewatch to revisit key information
✅ They are posed with deep reflection and practical activities that have unique personal answers, and this requires the space to confront their own thoughts - not rely on the thoughts of others.
✅ They have access to this course material forever, and can rewatch the videos as often as they want, even review what they learned after a few years
✅ They have access to and can contribute to live discussion questions, and activities on our Student Community page
✅ They themselves create and contribute to the answer to their problems, and learn how to problem-solve, rather than having them solved by someone with more experience and maturity

Absolutely! While this course has been designed to give teenagers and young adults the psychosocial skills of a post-university-degree-student, everyone can benefit from psychosocial skills development. The theory, and application activities, can easily be used for an adult - in fact, almost all of the examples and social situations cater to both the school setting and the workplace, as this course aims to empower both groups!
Absolutely! Currently, we have designed our checkout process, so that by purchasing the Future Forge program for your young person, you will also get absolutely free independent access to the course, as a show of thanks from us, for trusting us with their development.
